Matison Motorsports was established in 1995. Originally located on South Saunders Street in Raleigh, we started out as a BMW and Triumph dealer. Over the next five years we added Bimota, Laverda and Aprilia and became a European specialty store. As you may know, Bimota went out of business and Laverda left the US market.
In the summer of 2001, we were given the opportunity to add the Yamaha franchise. At the same time we were approached about selling off the BMW dealership. So we sold the BMW shop and left it at the Saunders Street location and it is now operated by new owners. We moved the Aprilia's and Triumph's into our location with Yamaha on Glenwood Avenue that was previously home to Reward Cycle. Reward went out of business and we were able to obtain the rights to the Yamaha franchise.
In November of 2002 we moved to a new 20,000 square foot Superstore location at 9500 Durant Road in North Raleigh enabling us to display our vast selection of new and used Motorcycles, ATV's, and Yamaha Watercraft.
In August 0f 2003 we added the Kawasaki franchise when Metro Powersports dropped the line to focus on selling American Cruisers. We also discontinued our relationship with Triumph to make more room for the Kawasaki's.
In July 2004 we added the full line of Suzuki products to our fast-growing powersports selection. We carry the full line of motorcycles, ATV's, scooters, dirt bikes and utility vehicles.
In April 2005 we added the Ducati franchise. This, along with the Aprilia's, made Matison your source for high performance Italian motorcycles.
In the fall of 2005 we proudly added the Sea Doo personal watercraft and Can-Am atv's (both manufacturered by Bombardier).
In March of 2007 we signed up with Cagiva USA to bring you the MV Agusta and Husqvarna lines. This enables us to bring you a five-brand selection of premier European motorcycles. The new Matison Italia "store-within-the-store" will bring you the region's only all-Italian dealership with Ducati, MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi & Aprilia.
On January 1, 2006, on our 10TH ANNIVERSARY, we completed construction of the area's finest new powersports facility. IT IS LOCATED AT 8840 CAPITAL BLVD only 1.7 miles north of I-540, just past Durant Road NEXT TO THE NEW SHEETZ GAS STATION/RESTAURANT/CONVENIENCE STORE. The new building is just down the street from our old Durant Road location. THIS IS A PERMANENT MOVE INTO A NEW FACILITY THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL OWN. We are excited about being able to provide a permanent location to serve the enthusiasts of this area.
Spring 2007 also brings the expansion of the dealership. We are adding to our facility by building a 12,000 square foot building next door. It will feature a 5,000 SF service center and an additional 7,000 SF of showroom. Our ability to showcase the area's best selection of powersports products will be truly a sight to see and a real destination for enthusiasts.
On April 10, 2008 we ended our long-standing relationship with Aprilia/Moto Guzzi. We enthusiastically added the Aprilia franchise in 1999. We we one of the original 40 US dealers. As you know, we suffered through the tough times as Aprilia filed bankruptcy, production stopped, parts were unavailable for years, etc. It was hard on the dealership and our customers. With the purchase of Aprilia and Moto Guzzi by Piaggio we had high hopes. Unfortunately, the level of support and customer service provided by Piaggio is completely unsatifactory. Parts availability remains poor, they didn't pay warranty claims until we threatened legal action, marketing was nearly noexistant, and the employees and management provided the lowest level of service we have ever experienced. We made the decision to end the pain. We loved the products but the performance and support from Piaggio was unacceptable. We appologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
What started out as a small specialty shop has grown into the area's premier powersports dealer with a full line of top-quality products from the world's top manufacturer's.
We have a shop full of enthusiasts. We all ride, race and like to have fun with what we sell. The staff owns and rides a wide variety of bikes. Many of the staff members are licensed road racers (WERA and CCS). We also have Motocross and Hare Scramble racers on staff. And, of course, when the weather turns hot, you will find us out on the water on our Waverunners, Sea Doo's and Jet Ski's.
THANKS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!
